Venezuela
Presidential election (06 Dec 1998)
The 1998 Venezuelan Presidential Elections took place on Sunday, December 6 of that year with the purpose of electing the President of the Republic for the 1999-2004 period, being the first time that the presidential elections were held separately from the parliamentary renewal (the latter took place on November 8). They were the last electoral process carried out under the guidelines of the 1961 constitution. Under it, the incumbent president could not run for reelection.
